Over the years of manufacturing hot tubs, we’ve designed a system that reduces chemical usage in your tub. We call it:
UV/OZONE COMBO ASSEMBLY
There are many talks in the spa/pool industry on what automatic sanitising system to use in spas and hot tubs – Ozone or UV?
We say – Have them both – For ultimate performance!
What is Ozone and Ozonator?
Ozone (O3) – Mother Nature’s purifier and disinfectant. It has 3 Oxygen atoms (normal Oxygen we breathe has only 2) and one of them has a weak connection with the others. This “weak” atom integrates with other organic matters causing it to oxidize or turn in to something else. This makes Ozone a perfect natural oxidizer.
Ozonator system generates Ozone which oxidises metals and other organic particles in the water, making them big enough to be filtered out of the spa’s water.
Without the use of Ozonator, super fine particles can make spa water cloudy, foaming with bad odours, which would in return require more chemicals to treat the water.
What is UV system?
UV sanitiser systems are chemical free way to sterilise hot tubs and spas. The UV technologyitself is not new and has been purifying drinking water and public pools for about 60 years around the globe.
UV sterilization kills 99.9% of water borne viruses and bacteria, including the real tough “bad guys” like Giardia and Crypto sporidium viruses.
Ultraviolet (UV) hot tub sanitiser deploy a non-chemical process that uses UV rays to destruct DNAs of most micro organisms in a water.
The result is that the micro organisms, such as algae, bacteria, viruses, cysts and protozoa, cannot reproduce and are killed.
It is bad news for microbes but great news for tub and spa owners everywhere.
Additionally the highly concentrated electromagnetic energy also destroys organic matter, eliminating the formation of dangerous chlorine by products.
How it all works together?
We do not intend to go with a lot of tech details but rather give you an idea how electronic Combo system works:
Ozonator generates Ozone and pushes it in to the flow
Ozonated water then enters UV steriliser
UV disables 99.9% of bacteria, parasites, and other microbes
At the same time UV converts Ozone in the water to Hydroxyl free radicals
Hydroxyl free radicals are very powerful oxidiser. It burns off and breaks down organic matter in the water and then instantly converts back to oxygen
Water returns to your hot tub free of all pollutants, off gases and chemicals
THE RESULT – CRYSTAL CLEAR WATER FREE FROM OZONE AND CHEMICAL SMELLS AND IRRITATIONS!
What are the benefits to you?
NO eye irritation
NO skin irritation
NO chemical smell
NO corrosive effect on tub timbers or equipment

Note: By Australian laws and regulations, you still need to have chemical backup. We recommend bromine floaters to use periodically after heavy usage of the tub.
The ionizer electrodes have a small DC voltage applied to them which forces copper, silver, and zinc ions to pass from one electrode to the other. The ions are caught up in the water as water passes between the electrodes. The silver ions attack and kill any bacteria or viruses in your spa. The Copper ions kill algae and the Zink ions destroy body fat which are the main reason that the water in most spas does not sparkle.
What is different about a Ukko Ionizer?
The electrodes are made of a custom made copper, silver, and zinc alloy designed for water treatment and are four times larger than most spa ionizers so our electrodes last longer and the replacement electrodes are a better value. Other ionizers use just copper only, or just copper and silver, which is not as effective as our three metal electrodes.
All our hot tubs come Ionizer ready so if you decide to get one later on, there’s no need to re-plumb your tub!
Suitable for asthmatics & those with chlorine sensitivity
Just follow three easy steps
Spa Hot Tub Startup Procedure:
Since dust, dirt and plastic residue can exist in your new spa following manufacture, we recommend you clean the spa prior to use. This can be done by filling the spa with water, removing the filter cartidges, adding 50ml of Poppit Spa Pipe Degreaser and circulating through the pipes (Turning the blowers on and off several times). After circulating for 30 – 60 minutes, dump spa water, wipe out inside with damp cloth and rinse off.
Step 1. Clear the water
Water as supplied by the water authorities has chlorine included and so this needs to be eliminated if we are to have a chlorine free spa. Simply use Quick Fix at the rate of 60 grams per 1000 litres of spa water and filter for 4 hours. This will oxidise the chlorine and any other unwanted matter in the water.
Note: Rain water and bore water also needs to be treated.
Step 2. Balance the water
Using a water test kit or test strip, check the pH, alkalinity and
calcium hardness levels of the water. The pH should be around 7.4 – 7.6
to be comfortable for people with sensitive skin. Total alkalinity
should be between 80 – 120pp. If necessary, adjust these two levels
using Water Balance to increase the level or pH Decreaser
to reduce them. Calcium levels that are lower than 100ppm can be
damaging to equipment, as well as making it difficult to maintain pH
levels and ultimately cause the water to go cloudy. Rain water is
predictably low in calcium. Ideal levels for calcium hardness are
between 100 and 200 ppm. To increase calcium levels use Poppit Spa cal
hardener as per label directions.
Step 3. Sanitise the water
The water is now clear of contaminants and balanced and all that needs
to be done is to sanitise the water with Spa Poppit – Conditioner,
bactericide and clarifier at the rate of one litre per 1000 litres of
That’s All – It’s that simple!
